An average day in the life of this writer ...

The alarm clock rings 'round about five am. I rollover and glare at the digital numbers. I get up, grudgingly of course, and head for the shower after a quick peek into the nursery to make sure Mikey is still sleeping. After a super quick, super hot shower it's back to Mikey's room and yes, he's still asleep. I set about to put myself in order - makeup, hair, teeth, clothes and by that time, the boy is screaming for food. My husband rolls over and gives me that adorable good morning grin and he's into the shower. He might possibly grumble a little because I took all the hot water or he might wisely keep his mouth shut. He is a smart man after all.

Downstairs and time for that all-important bottle. Mikey and I sit in the living room and stare at each other while he eats. It's during this time that my brain/imagination begins to kick into high gear. During this quiet half-hour I think about my current writing project - what needs to be done, what has been done and how it all fits together. I think about my characters and what they might be doing on an average day or about that particular scene that just isn't going the way I want.

When Mikey is done eating, it's into his car seat and Daddy takes him off to daycare and then onto work for us both. Throughout the day my mind continues to return to my current work (or sometimes to something I'd rather be working on instead). During my lunch break I might try to write out a scene and all day I return to a notebook I have devoted entirely to my current work to jot down ideas.

Then it's time to go home again and I swing by the daycare to pick up my favorite little person. He is just starting to smile and I live for that moment when he recognizes me and his face lights up.
